Mountain Cement Company is Wyoming's only producing site of portland cement. Originally constructed in 1927 by Monolith Portland Cement Company, the plant has been continuously upgraded in both capacity and technology to make it a leader in process efficiency, product quality and environmental controls. Mountain Cement operates two limestone quarries, two shale quarries and a gypsum quarry. Raw materials delivered to the plant via belly-dump haul units are crushed and stockpiled in a storage area at the plant site. Current crushing and trucking capacities are 1 million tons per year. The plant operates two coal-fired kiln systems that can also burn coke or gas.
